Leading the Family Business Today
When Walter Kienle opened his Riverside repair shop in 1960, he built it around European vehicles. A mechanic born in Germany to Swiss parents, he had come to the United States in 1948 and settled in Riverside after the Army stationed him there. By 1965, he was selling the cars he had been fixing. Porsche Riverside grew out of that same European focus. Until Porsche Ontario opened in 2020, it was the only Porsche dealership in Walter's Automotive Group, and it remains the higher-volume of the group's two Porsche stores today. Since Walter's passing in December 2017, the business has carried on under his son, Steve Kienle, who leads the group today. Porsche Riverside still answers to that same family, not a distant corporate office, more than sixty years after the shop that started it all.
