The answer is simpler than you think: models with the number four in their name feature all-wheel drive, maximizing Porsche performance and capability with the traction-ready system.

More Porsche Terminology to Know

Those who are newer to Porsche may be unfamiliar with certain terms that frequently pop up. Our dealership near Los Angeles is here to provide you with a small glossary to keep tabs on for when you’re searching for your next Porsche:

  • Boxster: A name created in 1993 and a portmanteau derived from boxer (engine) and roadster
  • E-Hybrid: As well as the combustion engine, the E-Hybrid models also have an electric motor on board, which provides more power when ensuring the powertrain as a whole emits less CO2.
  • Executive: Models of the Panamera range with a stretched body, which primarily benefits rear-seat passengers.
  • GTS: AKA Gran Turismo Sport, which was originally a homologation class for motor racing. The GTS suffix is currently used to designate the especially sporty and exclusive models of a Porsche model series.
  • S: For “Super” or “Sport”, the S designates a version with a more powerful engine.
  • Spyder: Originally coming from the coach-making term for lightweight, open carriages for two people, the name “Spyder” at Porsche is reserved for open-topped mid-engined sports cars, just like “roadster”.
  • Targa: The 911 Targa is an open-roofed version of the 911, characterized by its distinctive roll-over protection bar and its fixed, removable roof section.
  • Turbo: Turbo models have an engine with an exhaust gas turbocharger, which produces a powerful boost in performance
